SANGRUR: A day after a soldier killed four persons including three of his family members in Hassanpur village of Sangrur district, Police have charged entire family of dead accused for murders and also concluded that his elder brother’s love marriage with one of the victim was reason behind the incident.
Police said that Gurpreet Kaur had love marriage with soldier Jagdeep Singh’s elder brother Gurdeep Singh around three years ago and Jagdeep and his family was not happy with the marriage.

Acting on the complaint lodged by Gurpreet’s brother Sukhdeep Singh, the police have charged Jagdeep, who died on Tuesday in exchange of fire, his parents Gobind Singh and Sukhwant Kaur, his sister Deepinder Kaur and his friend Pamma under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 498 (A) (harassment of women by her husband or his relatives) of the IPC.
Dhuri deputy superintendent of police Nahar Singh said that investigation revealed that Jagdeep’s family was not happy with love marriage of Gurdeep with Gurpeet and they would also harass her to bring dowry.
“It has come to light that around a week ago, the girl was sent to her parents’ home by her in-laws. However, she was brought back only after some prominent persons of the village intervened in the matter”, he added.
Police said that Jagdeep’s friend Pamma was also part of the group that had brought Gurpreet back to home and he had taken the responsibility that she would be safe at her in-laws home.
Sources said that around a week ago, the family had received call that elder brother settled in US had died but which proved a false news.

“The girl was sent back to her parents’ home only after family had got that false news”, said an officer.
Jagdeep had also killed his uncle’s wife Labh Kaur, and her 16-year-old grandson Harmandeep Singh.
Police maintained that he targeted his uncle’s family as his family had sold part of its land to Jagdeep’s uncle (grandfather of 16-yearold victim Harmandeep Singh) when Jagdeep’s elder brother Gurdeep Singh had migrated to United States around two years ago.
The family had spent around Rs 20-25 lakh to send Gurdeep to US and sold land, which, according to police, appeared to have led to dispute among Jagdeep’s family members.
Police have yet not arrested any accused in the case.
Meanwhile, police have handed over bodies of victims Gurpreet Kaur, Karnail Kaur and Jagdeep Singh to their respective relatives.
